Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Registered Therapist and a Licensed Therapist?
This varies in the U.S from state to state. In Vermont, therapy providers are required to register their practice with the state, they are not required by law to be licensed. Licensure involves fulfilling certain requirements set by a licensing board. Most insurance companies require treatment from a licensed therapist in order to cover the cost of treatment.
Will Blue Lotus Counseling Services accept my insurance?
No. I do not accept any insurance at this time. From my perspective, there are issues around confidentiality and insurance which I believe are best eliminated by keeping my fees low and declining the use of insurance. For most clients, the fee is slightly more than their expected insurance co-pay.
What is mindfulness and buddhist attachment?
Mindfulness is being aware of what is going on in the moment you are in- something that sounds very simple. Children do this very well… as adults we tend to put of the moment at hand for something far in the past or future. As a result, we find ourselves losing the joy of the moment..something a mindful practice can help to bring back.
Buddhist attachment involves the importance we put on the material things in our lives. We attach ourselves to things, and try to hold on to these things in order to make ourselves happy. Working through these attachments doesn’t mean we have to eliminate material possessions from our lives or even the enjoyment they sometimes bring. It means we have a better understanding of the impermanence of all things, and learn to find a better balance between ourselves and what we attach to in our lives.
What if I schedule an appointment, pay for it, and miss it?
I know how life can be. If this happens, I will make every effort to reschedule the appointment. I do not issue refunds for missed appointments. All appointments are made on a first come, first serve basis. You are welcome to book appointments several weeks in advance.
